Zero Carbon Castle community herb and food gardens become a reality!

The Borough Council have kindly loaned an area of land at the Castle and Rothsay Roads roundabout to the group to strat a community herb garden. On a wonderfully sunny day in May in 2008 over forty people and children turned up to plant over 350 herbs.  The garden was planned by and organised by a small group of dedicated 'foodies' and is taking shape nicely despite a few thefts! We have more exciting projects  planned including some veggie planting.

The group have also secured some allotment plots from the Panacea Society at the junction of Albany and Castle Roads. We are looking for help to plan, plant and maintain this for the community food as well as any donations of any herbs for the herb garden. This would reduce food miles, use of pesticides and fertilisers and provide local people with fresh, healthy, locally produced food. If you have any unwanted herb plants or are willing to grow some vegetable plants to transfer to our community gardens then please get in touch.
